Spokane's Original Health Food Store since 1977
Lorien Herbs and Natural Foods was established in 1977 when a group of like-minded, Spokane residents saw a need to obtain high quality organic and wild crafted herbs and holistic natural remedies. What begun as a co-operative venture became a family owned business. Lorien continues as the Spokane family owned "Mom and Pop" business you see today. We are still dedicated to providing our customers with natural health promoting and ethical products.
We are proud that our “storybook architecture” Windmill building is on the National Historic Building Registry. It was built in 1929, and is a landmark of Spokane and the increasingly popular South Perry Neighborhood District. The distinctive and novel windmill shops were an outgrowth of the wholesale bakery and dairy company opened in Spokane in 1924 by the Cambern Brothers. As the original business expanded, the brothers hired architect Charles Wood to design unique shops, symbolic of their Dutch descent and the wholesome purity of their products. Plans were drawn for 13 structures, but records document the existence of 9 and only 3 of the shops still stand. Our shop in South Perry District remains the most preserved and functioning outlet of the Windmill structures.
Come in and visit our cute Dutch Windmill store. Chris’ (owner) paternal ancestry is Dutch and she has decorated the store with family heirlooms and wooden shoes. It’s a favorite in Spokane and a charming shop to see!
